Top Food, Drinks and Things to Do in the Lehigh Valley This Week

1.  The Grease Pit Sandwich

What’s not to love about a sandwich named “The Grease Pit”? As you can imagine, this particular sandwich is loaded with deliciousness, and not just your average deli meat deliciousness. We’re talking one pound, (yup, one whole pound) of locally smoked prime brisket, pulled pork and sausage on a Lusitania Bakery brioche roll. Drooling, yet? This meat lover’s dream can be found at Nick’s BBQ, basically, a road-side smoke stand that pops up every week at the Lower Saucon Fire Hall parking lot on Kenny Headman Lane in Bethlehem. Orders are only taken online or curbside, so head over to their virtual platform to get your order in and maybe take a look at the side options while you’re at it—perhaps the tangy slaw or the smoked kale and shiitake would pair nicely with The Grease Pit?

2. Chinese Dumplings

Dumplings delivered to your door? Sign us up! The Angry Dumpling is based right here in the Valley and offers made-to-order authentic handmade Chinese dumplings and delivers them frozen to your door. Created by Vasa and his wife, who came back to the United States from China due to COVID and wanted to share their love of dumplings and dumpling culture with the Lehigh Valley. Now featuring their winter menu, you’ll find authentic Chinese dumpling flavors like pork and onion but also American fusion like buffalo chicken and dessert dumpling flavors like hot chocolate. You can follow them on Instagram for tips on making your dumplings as well as for dumpling facts and history. Note: you can also order hot milk tea, honey citron tea, fried rice, chili oil and more to accompany your dumplings. Call them at 484.484.8854 to place your order.

3. Maker Workshops

The Steel Beam, formerly a boutique found on Historic Bethlehem’s Main Street, has found a new home in Bethlehem Township and with that new home comes a 4,000-square-foot space to offer makers’ workshops in addition to their small-batch, handcrafted wares, décor, apparel and accessories. A nice complement to their variety of goods for sale, their workshops range from a Basic Sewing Class and Fashion Illustration 101 to Embroidering Hoop Canvas Painting and a Lamp Making Workshop. For those looking for wedding related ideas, The Steel Beam has earring making for bridal parties, custom boutonniere making and couple’s ring making. For their full workshop series, check out their website here.

4. Beeswax Candles

Since we’re spending much (read: all) of our time home this winter, you’re probably burning a lot more candles, particularly candles made from materials you may not even want to look into. That’s where Bethlehem Candle Works comes in—a home-based business hand-pouring 100 percent beeswax candles with no added fragrances, dyes or chemicals. Not only are they cleaner, but also a great solution to those allergic to many scents your average candle produces. Not to mention, they’re available in adorable designs like trees, snowmen and our favorite, pine cones.

5. Concord Crush Sangria

We’re squeaking this one in here as you only have two more days to grab Clover Hill’s Concord Crush Sangria before they switch over to their February sangria special. Their popular Concord wine (think grape juice with a kick) is mixed with can-pomegranate juice, a twist of lemon and a slice of orange. You can purchase it by the carafe with two stemless glasses for $20 or skip the glasses and purchase the carafe for $17. It’s available for in-store purchase or curbside pick-up.
