Top Food, Experiences and Shopping in the Lehigh Valley This Week
1. Ice Tree
If you’ve always wanted to check out an ice castle (what? only me?), here’s your chance for the next best thing, an ice tree. The Stellar Ice Tree seems to have been around since 2014 when TJ Stellar decided to create this ice masterpiece in his front yard in Schnecksville. After recent exposure from Lehigh Valley with Love, this ice tree has become a hot topic of local conversation and is sure to be the Valley’s next drive-by at-home experience for winter. Locals are allowed to drive by and even pop out for pictures with the gigantic ice tree (make sure you look, don’t touch). We’d recommend going when the sun goes down as the tree lights up in neon in the dark.
2. Dirt Joy
We’ve found ourselves lost amongst the flowers in Zoey Schaeffer’s (Dirt Joy’s) Instagram feed more than once and always find ourselves coming back to see a new standout arrangement, scenes from her days spent at Pasture Song Farm or new additions to her handmade jewelry line. A jill of many trades you could say, Zoey is a photographer based in Bethlehem and part of the flower crew at Pasture Song Farm in Pottstown in addition to being an artist and yoga instructor. Head over to her website to check out her photography work (she even offers marketing and creative consulting services for fellow farmers), her jewelry line and to read her blog. Or follow her on Instagram for more of her daily life on the farm; it’ll inspire you to embrace the beauty of the earth and nature.
3. Grilled Cheese Pizza
Everyone’s favorite Southside pizza joint, Lehigh Pizza just debuted two of the most wonderful food items combined together as one gourmet option: the grilled cheese pizza. There’s not only one but four types of cheese in this pizza (mozzarella, provolone, cheddar and white American) sandwiched between two thin pieces of dough, brushed with butter and sprinkled with bread crumbs. If there was ever a time to be informed about a grilled cheese pizza, it’s Super Bowl weekend—add that to your game day eats list!
4. Tex-Mex Stand
Found at possibly one of the most unassuming locations of the Lehigh Valley, the Weil Antique Center parking lot, is the hidden gem that is Mi Pueblito Grill. As one Yelp reviewer says, “It’s a permanent food truck set up in the parking lot of an antique mall.” But don’t let the location fool you, customers travel from across the Lehigh Valley to eat their Tex-Mex favorites. In addition to American options, their Mexican dishes include street tacos, quesadillas and flautas. On Taco Tuesday, they sell three tacos for only $6, but a tip, you may want to hit up the ATM before you go, they only accept cash.
5. 3D Printed Planters
Everyone loves plants these days, so this find feels particularly relevant for all of the new plant moms and dads in the area who find themselves looking for unique planters and pots. Sutcliffe Designs of Nazareth creates 3D printed planters in a variety of unique designs, shapes and sizes (all made with plastic derived from renewable materials) and sells them on their Etsy shop and at The Gift Box Floral & Garden. Our particular favorite are these little dudes, but a few of their designs gave us a good laugh, check them out here.
